Real Estate In Newburgh’s Historic District
Newburgh NY is 65 miles north of New York City. It sits perched on a hillside of the west shore of the Hudson River. An easy choice when settled many years ago. Spend a little bit of time in the Hudson Valley, specifically Newburgh NY and it is obvious what an amazing place it is. Newburgh is both s town and a city. Two distinct sets of government, overlapping with a shared school district. The City of Newburgh has the largest historical area in the state of New York. This amazing part of Newburgh with its history and architecture will speak to you… if you just listen.
Showing homes in this beautiful city is always an adventure. Many homes are in need of repair but have such potential to be quite majestic for someone that wants to take charge. It is not for everyone, but for those that have the passion the rewards are huge. I love when clients get excited about the prospect. Enthusiasm for moving to Newburgh is quite palpable. As many don’t see the promise, others visit with a vision that is amazing. These are the lucky ones that keep looking until they find the right home.
On a recent showing my client and I were invited next door to take a tour of the local museum. While our schedule was in need of us moving along, we briefly toured the home. The Crawford House is home to the Historical Society of Newburgh and dates back to the 1800’s. This was definitely a treat for us and worth our quick stop.
Newburgh is a special place. I am now convinced that I need to learn more about the city history. Yes, back to school, or at least enroll in some classes at the historical society. I may even dig out that old text book that my daughter had from third grade on the history of Newburgh NY. Many of the details of the city are tidbits that the residents have handed down from one generation to the next. Today I learned from a tenant that Newburgh was quite significant in the original manufacturing of the lawn mower in the US. Who said selling real estate was boring??
