Halloween – A Quiet Night!

Halloween 2012

A Quiet Night in Newburgh NY

Halloween this year was definitely not the same. Our visit with Hurricane Sandy this week had shifted priorities for many in the community. Some of us are luckier than others since the Hurricane stormed through the region. Schools have been closed all week and power restoration is slow but steady. Halloween, Trick or Treat, and costumes have taken a back seat for many during the cleanup. Many  locations have canceled Halloween and other locations postponed festivities until the weekend.

I know that kids are very disappointed as it is always fun to run around the neighborhood and filling their buckets with candy.  This year is a bit different. Safety for many locations was an issue with downed trees and power lines still decorating the streets rather than spider webs, ghosts and goblins. Children walking around in the dark would not be the best idea.

My neighborhood was just fine, and tonight I did see a few children come to my door in hopes of a trick or a treat! While I had no tricks up my sleeve….. candy was what I had to offer. I am always glad to see the kids come in costume. It reminds me of my little girls and how much they enjoyed the process every year. Dressing up and pretending was always a hit! Once my girls left home it was just me, my husband and my dog that would greet the neighborhood children.

Happy faces found their way to my doorstep tonight and the children all looked like they were having fun. A quiet night as we only had a handful of the neighborhood children visit. Of course now I have way too much candy in my house. After a snow storm last year and a hurricane this year I opt for a weather free event for 2013.. we can only hope!

Janis, it was a busy Halloween night in my waterfront RI North Kingstown neighborhood…the first one …most of the other towns postponed Halloween until Saturday. Can’t disappoint the children!

Janis…no doubt the kids who missed out were upset but it is all about keeping them safe and with all the downed trees and utility lines it makes sense to stop them from potentially getting hurt.

Good thing you are all ok and better to be safe than sorry that’s for sure. I hear a lot of folks lost their lives by stepping on wires. Not good.

We were all thinking of you guys on the east coast this past week and still do. Sending prayers for families of victims and those that need to majorly rebuild.

Hurricane’s are usually not the norm in NM so my heart goes out to you all in NY. I do love hearing all the stories pouring in from other AR members on FB and G+ of survivor and aftermath information. Some great stories amid the sad ones.

Glad you are all safe. We get these storms from time to time in FL but nothing that severe as of yet. And inland a bit steers clear but I know how scary it can be and without power for a few days is no fun at all!

We are lucky Beth to have had power all through the events. Now the clean up and no gas… now that is a problem. People are getting cranky!

We were quite busy most of the night around here. And then like a water faucet, it all went off about 9:30 and not another peep. I like it when that happens.
